MOBILE, Ala. – Dalton State finished off the 2023 track & field season on Saturday with a 4^th place finish in the SSAC Championship at Jaguar Track in Mobile, Ala.
 
RECAP
On Day 1, the Lady Roadrunners scored 22 points to sit 5^th in the order. Giselle Dominguez earned 8 pts with a runner-up finish in the 10,000M with a time of 41:57. Marlene Paez and Ella Coley joined her in the race with 4^th and 5^th place finishes respectively and another 9 points.
 
Kayla Mattox, Rebecca Poe, Haley Tillery, and Kathryn Vradenburgh teamed up in the 4x800M for a 4^th place finish and 5 points toward the team total. Jazzmyn Shelton (13:31), Tyler Simpson (14:42), and Briana Ray (15:61) all competed in the 100M, with Laila Reynolds throwing 13.10M in the discus to close out the first day of competition.
 
Shelton, Simpson, and Ray started the second day of the event running the 200M. Shelton posted 28.88 with Simpson finishing in 30.55 and Ray at 32.31. The Javelin was next with Ray throwing a distance of 18.38M. Simpson and Tillery also competed in the Javelin with Simpson tossing 17.17M and Tillery 16.35M.
 
Ray once again won the Pole Vault clearing 2.65M (8'8.25") for 10 points. Simpson and Reynolds competed in the Shot Put later with Simpson hitting 8.37M and Reynolds throwing 5.38M. Dominguez ran in the 5000M in the afternoon with Paez as they combined for 8 more points running times of 19:33 and 20:00.
 
Vradenburgh defended her title in the 1500M with another record setting performance lowing her own conference record time with a 4:48 and 10 points. The 3000M Steeplechase earned the Lady Birds 18 points as Mattox, Tillery, Coley, and Poe all competed coming in 3^rd, 4^th, 5^th, and 6^th in the event. The day ended with DS picking up 3 points in the 4x400M as the team of Poe, Mattox, Tillery, and Vradenburgh finished 6^th in a time of 4:42.
