MONTGOMERY, Ala. - Dalton State faced a big deficit early and nearly made the comeback, but ran out of gas down the stretch as #15 Bethel (Tenn.) pulled away to claim a 6-3 victory in the SSAC Semifinals on a soppy field at Emory Folmar YMCA Complex in Montgomery, Ala. on Thursday afternoon.

THE FIRST HALF
Bethel would come out of the box on fire. SSAC leading goal scorer and Golden Boot Award winner Pascal Mohungsi would get the match started with a goal 1:27 into the contest for a quick 1-0 lead. The Wildcats would not stop there scoring two more goals for a total of three in the first 10:32 of the match to lead 3-0.

Dalton State would rally back. In the 36', Jose Villalobos would collect a ball in the box and curl it into the right corner past Marco Taaffe to make the score 3-1. The Roadrunners would get another good look right before the half, but a Francisco Rodriguez shot would be blocked by Don Obare before it ever reached the goal. The remaining time would tick off as the teams would head to the break with Bethel holding a 3-1 lead.

THE SECOND HALF
The second period of play would start with Dalton State screaming down the field right from the start. Freshman Frank Herrera would take a shot off just 26 seconds into play. His shot would barely miss its target but Kevin Villatoro would be Johnny-On-The-Spot, collecting the loose ball and heading it past Taaffe and cutting the Bethel lead to one at 3-2.

The Wildcats would get back on the board in the 51' when Leonardo Ferreira found the back of the net to make the score 4-2. The two goal lead would not last long. Under three minutes later Villatoro would take a ball from Tyler Hudson and score to cut the Wildcat lead back to one goal at 4-3.

Bethel would lock down on defense after the third Roadrunner goal, not allowing Dalton State a chance to even the score. The Wildcats would control possession offensively, getting multiple shots off. They would tack on two goals in the 62' and 71' to extend the lead to 6-3 and take the match to advance to the finals of the SSAC Tournament.

THE REST OF THE STORY
Dalton State ends their season at (7-10-2 overall, 3-5 SSAC) with the loss, while #15 Bethel (Tenn.) improves to (15-3-1 overall, 7-1 SSAC) with the win and will meet #3 William Carey (Miss.) who advanced with a 2-1 (2 OT) victory over Mobile (Ala.).
