(RV) Roadrunners Drop Defensive Battle to No. 5 William Carey (Miss.)


DALTON, Ga. – In a tightly contested conference matchup, (RV) Dalton State battled No. 5 William Carey (Miss.) for 90 minutes before falling 1-0 on Sunday at Dalton Stadium. A 72nd-minute goal by Souleymane Balde proved to be the difference. Bernardo Manzano made four saves in goal to keep Dalton State within striking distance throughout the match.
 
FIRST HALF
Dalton State generated the first opportunity of the match when Jonathan Mindegaard sent a shot wide in the second minute. William Carey answered with a pair of attempts on target, but Manzano stopped shots from Daniel Mulero and Jean Danitanga to preserve the scoreless tie.
 
The Roadrunners continued searching for the opening goal as Aaron Ramos fired high in the 30th minute. Joel Hernandez added two attempts late in the period, including a shot that traveled wide right in the 44th minute. Dalton State and William Carey each recorded two corner kicks before entering halftime tied at 0-0.
 
SECOND HALF
Dalton State opened the second half on the attack, earning three corner kicks during the first seven minutes. Kai Reading placed an attempt on target in the 50th minute before Fabio Barbosa forced another save from William Carey goalkeeper Yago Darub less than two minutes later.
 
William Carey broke through at the 71:09 mark when Balde scored off assists from Danitanga and Enzo Galli. The Roadrunners pressed for an equalizer following the goal, with Jesus Huitanda recording attempts in the 78th and 85th minutes. Hernandez produced Dalton State's final opportunity in the 90th minute, but his shot went wide right as William Carey held on for the 1-0 victory.
