Roadrunners Win Another Overtime Thriller

Box Score
DALTON, Ga. - Thrilling overtime home games are becoming the norm for the Dalton State Men's soccer team as they edged visiting Faulkner University 2-1 in a SSAC match on Thursday night at Lakeshore Park.

With the win the Roadrunners improve to 9-1-1 overall and 4-1 in the Southern States Athletic Conference.  Faulkner drops to 5-5 overall and 0-3 in the SSAC and extends their losing streak to four.

Dalton State found theirselves down 1-0 midway through the first half when Dave Chesterman was left unattended and found the back of the net.  The Roadrunners would bounce back before the half ended as Junior Jordan Man found himself in the right place at the right time as he headed in a rebound off the post.

Both teams would have opportunities in the second half, but Goalkeepers from both teams played strong in net not allowing anything to pass.

The winning moment came in the 103 minute when Daniel Valenciano hit a strike from center-mid that sneaked by Faulkner Goalkeeper Diego Da Silva and into the back of the net.

"We had another amazing double-overtime win tonight," said DS coach Kerem Daser.  "I thought Faulkner came out and played their hearts out.  They are a very good team and I give credit to Coach Kyle and his squad.  Diego Gonzales made some big saves for us the whole match.  He got hurt in the last conference match and it was great to see him come up big for us in an important match.  Special thanks tonight goes out to our Dalton State students and local soccer supporters for cheering us on to victory."

ON THE HORIZON
The Roadrunners travel to Hunstville, AL on Sunday, October 16 to match up with Oakwood University.  The Roadrunners return home on October 27 to square off with Bethel University in a key SSAC match.  Dalton State will close out the regular season on Saturday, October 29 against Martin Methodist.
