McKenzie, TN. – Offensive looks were tough to come by Saturday, but a well-placed pass from Isael Guiterrez to Emmanuel Olusanya with 9:52 remaining in the first period was all it took to give the Dalton State soccer team a regular season ending 1-0 victory over Bethel University
Bethel had 12 shots to Dalton State's eight, but the Roadrunners managed the first ever SSAC road win.
"Bethel has won national championships and has big tradition," said DS Coach Kerem Daser. "I am so proud of the defensive effort from the whole team and it was nice to get a shutout over a talented Bethel team. Our freshman keeper Diego Gonzalas, our back four with our defensive midfielders Kiko Rodriquez and Jordan Man were rock solid."
Daser called the winning goal "an amazing world class bicycle kick." He added, "We played 90 minutes with discipline and passion. Now we need to get ready for the conference tournament."
The tournament pairings were officially announced Sunday morning. The Roadrunners (11-6-1 overall, 4-4-0 SSAC) will play at William Carey (11-6-1, 4-2-2) in Hattiesburg, MS on Friday at 7:00 p.m. The Crusaders scored two first period goals back on October 10th to defeat Dalton State 2-1 in Hattiesburg. William Carey also surprised No. 23 Mobile on Saturday, 3-1.
