Pulaski, TN- The first year Dalton State men's soccer team dropped another close match Saturday night. Martin Methodist scored the game's only goal with 28:51 left in the second period to beat the Roadrunners, 1-0.
A scoreless first period came to a close with Dalton State and Martin Methodist combining for only 6 shots. The Warhaw's Stephen Carrol scored what proved to be the winning goal off a corner kick assist by Jack McCarren.
The Roadrunners continued to fight until the final second. Romiro Guerrero fired what would have been a game tying goal as time expired, but Dalton State ultimately could not overcome the 1-0 deficit.
"Our team gave a great effort," said Roadrunner Coach Kerem Daser. "All three captains had a big game for us. Jordan (Man) was outstanding in the middle of the park. Ibra (Ibrahima Sissoko) was dangerous in the second half and Isa (Isael Guiterrez) had an outstanding game as our center back."
It was the Roadrunner's fourth one goal SSAC loss. "We are competitive in this conference but need a bit more to pull off the conference away wins," Daser added. "We need to train hard and get ready for Bethel"
With the loss, Dalton State falls to 10-6-1 overall and 3-4 in SSAC play win. The win propelled the Warhawks to 10-5-2 and to 4-1-2 and a tie for second place with the University of Mobile in the conference standings. The Roadrunners will play their final match of the regular season on the road versus SSAC member Bethel University on Saturday, October 31 at 2:00 p.m. CDT.
