DALTON, Ga. – The #4-ranked Dalton State men's soccer team snagged their first victory of the 2023 season Thursday night at Dalton Stadium, beating the Brescia (Ky.)  Bearcats with a final score of 4-0.
 
HOW IT HAPPENED
FIRST HALF
(1-0) DS: The Roadrunners scored their 1^st home goal of the season, dawning a pass from Matheus Fineto Gamileira, leading to a Jack Stainrod goal in the 43' of the 1^st half.

SECOND HALF

• (2-0) DS: Inaugurating their strong 2^nd half performance, the Birds began their scoring run in the 64' after an accurate cross from Kazuma Ishizuka, cashing in with a goal scored by Mason Dalton.
• (3-0) DS: Soon after in the 71', Dalton State stretched their lead following another fast break, this time assisted by Mason Dalton with Matheus Fineto Gamileira sending the ball through the net.
• (4-0) DS: Already with a comfortable lead, Filemon Quintero capped off scoring for the night with a beautiful shot that perfectly found its way into the net following a pass from Jurgen Ramirez in the 73'.

THE REST OF THE STORY
#4 Dalton State (Ga.) improves their record to (1-0-1 overall) with the victory, while Brescia (Ky.) falls to (0-1-0 overall) following the loss. Due to a strong performance from the Bearcat's goalie Finn Martin, the Birds were not able to convert multiple scoring opportunities early in the match, but a steady 2^nd half showing from the Roadrunners proved to be the difference.
 
UP NEXT
Dalton State will don the field again on Saturday, August 26, to take on the Louisiana Christian Wildcats (La.). Kickoff is scheduled for 4:00 p.m. at Dalton Stadium.
