#4 Roadrunners Fall To #5 Bobcats In PK's

DALTON, Ga. – #4 Dalton State fought with #5 St. Thomas for 110 minutes and then some as the match ended in a 1-1 draw, but the Bobcats came out on top, 6-5, in PK's to advance to the semifinals of the 2023 NAIA Men's Soccer Championship at Stryker Sports Complex in Wichita, Kan. on Thursday afternoon.
 
HOW IT HAPPENED
FIRST HALF
  • (1-0 DS) DS: A corner kick in the 8' got the Roadrunners on the board first when Rasmus Andersson lined up a strike that Jack Stainrod headed to Guilherme Franca for the score.
  • (1-1 DS) STU: A mishap in the DS backfield led to a Bobcat goal as Franca and Michael Barrueta collided as a St. Thomas player chased Franca and ended as the ball caromed over all three players and into the net two bounces later.

#4 Dalton State (Ga.) ends the season (14-2-4 overall) with the tie, while #5 St. Thomas (Fla.) (12-5-5 overall) advances to the semifinals. Dalton State held a 13-11 shot advantage, while the shots on goal tally was even at 4-4.

The #4 Roadrunners season ends with the loss. They will be return to the pitch in 2024 in search of the program's first national championship.
