Cardiac Birds Do It Again

DALTON, Ga. - The Dalton State men's soccer team is quickly becoming the cardiac kids of the Southern States Athletic Conference after a nailbitting 2-1 double-overtime victory against Bethel University on Thursday night at Lakeshore Soccer Complex.

The teams would go into halftime tied 0-0 after superb defensive play. Bethel would strike first in the second half when Oliver Pratt bent a corner kick over the outstretched Diego Gonzalez to give the Wildcats the 1-0 lead.

The score would stay the same until Enrique Ruiz hit the equilizer in the 88th minute on a beautiful assist from Senior Rury Alvarez.

The score would remain tied a 1-1 through the first overtime. In the second overtime Alvarez would find Santiago Moore cross-field and Moore would find the back of the net and give Dalton State the win.

"I think Malang Jarju and Bethel did a great job tonight," said coach Kerem Daser. "His team was very dynamic and very dangerous in the attacking third. Our team showed great character by coming from behind. This was an important conference match that guarantees that we will finish in the top two and host a first round match in the conference tournament. We want to send a special thanks to our amazing Roadrunner fans."

Rury Alvarez would finish with 2 key assist on the evening.

The Roadrunners will be back in action on Saturday, October 29 when they match-up with Martin Methodist at Lakeshore Soccer Complex at 7:30 p.m.
