For the second time Saturday, the Dalton State volleyball team (3-3) had to go to a fifth set to gain a victory. The Roadrunners clipped the Milligan College Buffaloes, 3-1 at Bandy Gymnasium.
The first set was easy for DS. After falling behind, 0-2, the hosts pulled out to a 15-8 lead. Milligan did come back to trail by just two at 22-20, but the Roadrunners won the set going away at 25-20. Dalton State trailed by as many as four in the second set (8-12) but came back to tie the set at 12. The Buffaloes managed one more lead at 16-15 before Dalton State pulled away to the 25-17 set victory.
Milligan College (4-3) would win the next two sets to force a tie-breaker. The visitors went up by three (4-7), but DS outscored the Buffaloes down the stretch 11-4 for the 15-11 set win and the match.
Michala Askew had 37 Dalton State assists and 11 digs.
Savannah Nelson tallied a dozen kills.
Wendy Perez had 9 kills.
Marta Guntin had 8 kills and 8 digs.
Anna Metzler had 8 kills.
Kianna Delaney had six killls and 8 digs.
Karly Newman had nine digs.
"It was a great day for us," said Roadrunner Coach Bruna Langner. "We left our home gym with two big wins over two great teams. We had some downs during the two matches but we were able to get out of a bad situation. I am proud of our team."
Dalton State defeated Reinhardt University in the day's opening match, also 3-2 (25-20, 21-25, 20-25, 25-19, 15-12). Also today at Bandy Gymnasium, Life University ended the day of volleyball by handing Reinhardt University their second heartbreaking overtime loss of the day 3-2 (25-21, 23-25, 26-24, 20-25, 15-13).
Life also defeated Milligan College, 3-1 (25-10, 21-25, 25-20, 25-16).
The Roadrunners will now play three matches on the road before returning home on September 17th for a SSAC Match at 7 p.m. against Faulkner University.
