The Dalton State women's volleyball team wrapped up the regular season on Saturday afternoon at Bandy Gymnasium with a 3-1 loss to the University of Mobile.
The visiting Rams (28-5, 13-3 SSAC) got out to a two sets to none lead after outscoring the Roadrunners in the second set, 30-28. Dalton State came back to take the third game, 25-19. Mobile won the fourth set, 25-21 to take the match.
Dalton State's Kianna Delaney and Marta Gunter had 11 and eight kills respectively. Savannah Nelson had five blocks and Delaney earned four. Michala Askew had 29 assists and 11 digs. Karly Newman had 16 digs. Anna Metzler had 14 digs.
The No. 6 Roadrunners (12-14, 6-10 overall) and No. 2 seed Mobile will now meet again in the first round of the Southern States Athletic Conference Championship at the Cramton Bowl Multiplex in Montgomery. The matchup has been set for 1:30 p.m. ET (12:30 p.m. CT) on Thursday (Nov. 12th).
Other Thursday first round contests will have No. 3 seed Bethel (TN.) meeting No. 7 seed Martin Methodist (TN.) at 3:00 p.m. CT., No. 1 seed Coastal Georgia opening with No. 5 seed Loyola (LA) at 12:30 p.m. CT and No. 4 seed Faulkner (AL.) playing No. 8 Brenau (GA.) at 3:00 p.m. CT.
The SSAC Volleyball Championship is a "pool play" format with Dalton State, Mobile, Bethel and Martin Methodist in Pool B. Pool A is Coastal Georgia, Faulkner, Loyola and Brenau.
At least three matches are guaranteed. Dalton State and Bethel will play Friday (Nov. 13th) at 10:00 a.m. CT. The Roadrunners will meet Martin Methodist at 3:00 p.m. on Friday. The other Pool B matches on Friday will have Mobile and Martin Methodist at 12:30 p.m. CT and Mobile and Bethel at 5:00 p.m.
The Friday schedule for Pool A will have Faulkner and Loyola at 10:00 a.m., Coastal Georgia and Brenau at 12:30 p.m., Loyola and Brenau at 3:00 p.m. and Coastal Georgia at Faulkner at 5:00 p.m.
The tournament will conclude on Saturday at 10:00 a.m. CT when the Pool A No. 1 Team plays the Pool B No. 2 team and the Pool A No. 2 team meets the Pool B No. 1 team from the earlier matches.
The winners of the Saturday morning matches will meet Saturday at 2:00 p.m. CT for the SSAC volleyball championship.
Coastal Georgia is the regular season SSAC winner with a 15-1 record. Mobile is next with 13 wins and 3 losses. Bethel (12-4) finished third. Faulkner (10-6) is fifth. Dalton State, Loyola and Martin Methodist are each 6-10 in the conference. Brenau finished 4-12 and Brewton Parker didn't make the tournament with their 0-16 conference record.
