Montgomery, AL. – The Dalton State volleyball team knocked-off No.3 seed Bethel in Friday's Pool B opening match, 3 sets to one.
The Roadrunners easily captured the first two sets, 25-15 and 25-16 but the final games were close to the end.
Dalton State never trailed in the first two games. They started the first set with an 18 to six opening run and cruised to the 25-15 final. The largest lead of the second game was at 24-14 as the DS girls went on to win it, 25-16.
In the third set, the Wildcats moved out to a couple of five point leads but the Roadrunners never gave up. They came back to take a 21-18 advantage and even a 22-19 lead, but Bethel tied the set at 23 and went on to win 25-23.
Bethel started strong in the fourth set, jumping out to a 12-7 lead and even led at 18- 12. Dalton State again never gave up and finally took the lead back at 23-22. The Roadrunners went on to win the game, 25-23, and the set.
Michala Askew had a match high 42 assists to go with 14 digs. Kianna Delaney had a match high 16 kills and 14 digs. Anna Metzler and Marta Gunter each had 11 kills and 11 digs. Savannah Nelson added eight kills and Karly Newman had 13 digs.
Dalton State will Martin Methodist this afternoon.
Also Friday, Faulkner (AL) defeated Loyola (LA) in straight sets, 25-19, 25-19 and 25-15. Coastal Georgia defeated Brenau University in straight sets, 25-7, 25-7 and 25-20.
