Box Score Dalton State 25 17 25 16 15 = 3Brenau 8 25 11 25 5 = 1 The Dalton State volleyball team defeated Brenau University (9-17, 3-11 SSAC) in five sets Tuesday night at Bandy Gymnasium.
The Lady Roadrunners never trailed in the first set on their way to convincing 25-8 win. The visiting Golden Tigers came roaring back with a 25-17 second set victory.
The third game was all Dalton State. The hosts jumped out to a 12-3 lead and went on to the convincing 25-11 win. Brenau tied the match with an equally convincing 25-16 win. Dalton State easily won the tie breaker, 15-5.
The stats were more even than the match with the Roadrunners totally 41 kills to the Golden Lions 35, 62 digs to 56 and seven serving aces to six for Brenau.
Kianna Delaney had a match high 15 kills and five digs.
Savannah Nelson had eight kills and eight digs. Ann Metzler added seven kills and six digs.
Karly Newman had 13 digs. Rafaela Petrunko had 10 digs.
Michala Askew had 40 assists and seven digs.
"It was an exciting win," said DS Coach Bruna Langner. That's what we needed for the tough weekend ahead."
Dalton State (11-11 overall, 5-7 SSAC) will be on the road this weekend. They will play at Bethel (18-8, 9-3) in McKenzie, TN Friday at 4 p.m. EDT, 3 p.m. CDT. They then head to Pulaski, TN. for a Saturday afternoon match with Martin Methodist. The Redhawks are 6-21 overall and 4-8 SSAC going into a Friday night game with Faulkner University.
