Lady Roadrunners Fall To No. 11 William Carey (Miss.)


DALTON, Ga. – Dalton State fell 6-0 to No. 11 William Carey on Sunday at Dalton Stadium. The loss moved the Roadrunners to 4-3-4 overall and 2-3-1 in conference play, while the Crusaders improved to 8-1-2 overall and 6-0 in league competition.
 
FIRST HALF
William Carey applied pressure from the opening whistle, but Dalton State goalkeeper Maggie Rickerd kept the match scoreless with five saves during the opening 10 minutes. Luana Falconeri broke through in the 12th minute before Linda Mustered doubled the advantage at the 14:07 mark.
 
The Roadrunners produced consecutive opportunities in the 25th minute when Carol Anne Giannamore-Strickland had one attempt blocked and sent another wide right. William Carey added its third goal through Raquel Batalla Royo in the 43rd minute and entered halftime with a 3-0 lead. Rickerd recorded eight first-half saves as the Crusaders held a 21-2 advantage in shots.
 
SECOND HALF
Dalton State earned a corner kick through Amy Wearing less than two minutes into the second half, but William Carey extended its lead with three goals over a nine-minute span. Mustered scored her second goal in the 55th minute, Susan De Souza Santos found the net in the 58th minute, and Kayla Martin completed the scoring at 63:54.
 
The Roadrunners continued to search for a goal late in the match. Brooke Fairchild sent an attempt wide in the 70th minute, and Audrey Hunt followed with a shot wide right in the 79th. Ashley Estrada generated Dalton State's lone shot on goal in the 83rd minute, forcing a save from William Carey goalkeeper Alicia Garwood. Kamryn Martinez relieved Rickerd in goal during the 75th minute and made three saves without conceding over the final 15:04.
