Roadrunners Take Down No. 6 Indiana Tech, 2-1

FORT WAYNE, Ind. – David Saldana and Bruno Conto found the back of the net, while goalkeeper Bernardo Manzano delivered a critical late penalty save as Dalton State knocked off No. 6 Indiana Tech, 2-1, on Saturday at Warrior Athletic Field in Fort Wayne, Ind.

FIRST HALF
Dalton State wasted little time taking control against the sixth-ranked Warriors. Just 2:21 into the contest, Saldana scored the opening goal off an assist from Jesus Huitanda, giving the Roadrunners an early 1-0 advantage.

Indiana Tech generated a pair of headed opportunities during the opening 12 minutes, but Manzano stopped attempts from Joao Gustavo and Fernando Cuevas to preserve the lead.

The Roadrunners continued to create chances as the half progressed. Joao Victor placed a shot on goal in the 37th minute, and Jason Guerrero-Blanco forced another save from Indiana Tech goalkeeper Alan Fleischer at 41:27. Dalton State entered halftime leading 1-0 after producing seven shots during the opening period.

SECOND HALF
Dalton State doubled its advantage less than four minutes after the restart. At 48:55, Conto converted a chance created by Victor to extend the Roadrunners' lead over the No. 6 Warriors to 2-0.

The Roadrunners continued to threaten, with Sergio Salas and Fabio Barbosa each forcing second-half saves from Fleischer. Dalton State's task became more difficult in the 73rd minute when Jamal Gizir received a red card, leaving the Roadrunners to finish the match with 10 players.

Indiana Tech pressed forward and earned a penalty kick at 84:18, but Manzano denied Matthew Takawira from the spot. Aiki Sadaoka scored on the ensuing sequence at 84:25, trimming Dalton State's lead to 2-1.

Playing a man down against the sixth-ranked team in the country, the Roadrunners held firm over the remaining minutes. Indiana Tech managed only one additional shot, which went wide, as Dalton State closed out the 2-1 road victory. Manzano earned the win after making four saves across the full 90 minutes.
