Roadrunners Hold Off Campbellsville for 2-1 Home Victory

DALTON, Ga. Dalton State struck twice in the opening 18 minutes and relied on eight saves from goalkeeper Bernardo Manzano to secure a 2-1 victory over Campbellsville on August 27. The win improved the Roadrunners to 2-1 on the season, while the Tigers fell to 0-2.

David Saldana and Fabio Barbosa supplied the goals for Dalton State, with Nicolas Cuna recording the assist on the eventual game-winner.

Campbellsville responded with sustained pressure, but Bernardo Manzano made saves in the sixth, eighth and 16th minutes to keep the Tigers off the board.

Dalton State doubled its advantage in the 18th minute. Following a corner kick from Nicolas Cuna, Fabio Barbosa found the net at 17:11 to put the Roadrunners ahead 2-0.

The Tigers pulled one back at 21:33 when Alessandro Martinez scored after a blocked attempt from Mihlali Blesi. Campbellsville generated 10 first-half shots and four corner kicks, but Dalton State carried its 2-1 advantage into the break.

SECOND HALF
Dalton State opened the second half on the front foot, earning three corner kicks during the first 13 minutes and producing blocked attempts from Sergio Salas and Hudson Ferreira.

Campbellsville continued to search for an equalizer, forcing Bernardo Manzano into four more saves after halftime. The Tigers came closest at 64:39, when Mihlali Blesi struck the post. Manzano then denied Izan Garcia Gancedo in the 72nd minute to preserve the lead.

The Roadrunners applied pressure down the stretch. Bruno Conto put an attempt on target at 78:50, and Pedro Silva forced another save in the 87th minute before having a final shot blocked at 88:26. Dalton State kept Campbellsville scoreless throughout the second half to close out the 2-1 victory.
