Women's Golf-2026 Currahee Club Invitational Runner-Up

No. 3 Lady Roadrunners Finish Runner-Up At Currahee Club Invitational

3/4/2026 1:40:00 PM

TOCCOA, Ga. — The No. 3 Dalton State put together a gritty, all-team effort at the Currahee Club Invitational on Monday and Tuesday, finishing second at +59, close behind #6 SCAD Savannah (Ga.) (+48), after rounds of +19, +22, and +18 on the par-72 layout. The Roadrunners made a serious run at the title in a field with multiple nationally ranked programs, but DS was steady all week at one of North Georgia's most demanding tracks.

FINAL TEAM STANDINGS
  • 1st – #6 SCAD-Savannah (Ga.): 912 (+48)
  • 2nd – #3 Dalton State (Ga.): 923 (+59)
  • 3rd – #20 Cumberland (Tenn.): 940 (+76)
ROUND 1
Dalton State opened in control and settled into second after the first lap around Currahee, carding a +19 (307)  that kept the Roadrunners squarely in the title chase. Jia Kataria paced the lineup and provided a key counting score to anchor the day, while the middle of the order stacked pars to minimize big numbers on Currahee's demanding par-72. Competing as an individual, Tylah James turned in a composed opening round, steady off the tee and clean around the greens, to build confidence for the rest of the week.

ROUND 2
Scores drifted higher across the field as wind and firmer greens tightened targets, but Dalton State managed the damage with a +22 (310) that maintained striking distance of the lead. Veteran patience through the middle holes led by Tara Phipps (+4, 76) preserved the team card and kept momentum alive heading into the finale. Tylah James followed her opener with another consistent card, finding more fairways and giving herself birdie looks to continue a solid personal showing at Currahee.

ROUND 3
TEAM RECAP
Dalton State made a final-day push but ultimately posted +18 (306), closing shy of the title. Phipps and Kataria paced the Roadrunners with a clutch even-par 72 rounds to keep the pressure on SCAD Savannah, while the counting scores behind her battled a tough setup and firm greens that kept red numbers scarce. Kataria and Phipps made the all-tournament team, with Kataria snagging individual medalist honors.
