Pettus’ 30 And Smith’s 8 Blocks Propel Dalton State To 83–71 Road Win At Tennessee Southern

PULASKI, Tenn. – Dalton State closed strong on the road Thursday night, topping Tennessee Southern 83–71 at the Curry Athletic Complex behind a monster double-double from Qualen Pettus (30 points, 10 rebounds) and a rim-protecting clinic from Omarion Smith (8 blocks). The Roadrunners led 46–38 at the break and never trailed in the second half to secure the win.

RECAP
FIRST HALF
After early back-and-forth possessions, Pettus caught fire, pouring in 20 first-half points on 7-of-11 shooting, including 3-for-5 from deep, to spark Dalton State. The visitors shot 58.1% from the field and 55.6% from three in the opening 20 minutes to build a 46–38 halftime lead.

Kyoya Sasaki provided a lift off the bench with 7 first-half points and active work on the glass, while Ja'Ron Briggs added 9 points and 4 assists before intermission.

Tennessee Southern stayed within range behind Jack Harper's outside touch, he had 15 at the half on 5 threes, and Antonio Cochran's efficient scoring, but Dalton State's shot-making and activity at the rim carried the frame.

SECOND HALF
Dalton State struck first after the break, Raylan Barrion's three at 18:46 pushed the margin to double digits, and the Roadrunners controlled the tempo from there. Smith continued to erase looks at the rim, finishing with 8 blocks on the night.

Pettus kept the scoreboard moving with tough finishes in traffic, and Briggs hit a timely three at 7:09 to keep separation. Dalton State's lead peaked at 16 in the final two minutes after a Pettus burst, and the visitors comfortably closed it out, 83–71.

Tennessee Southern made pushes, Harper (20 points) and Cochran (19) combined for five second-half threes, but the hosts couldn't overcome Dalton State's balance and transition punch.
