Dalton State Edged In Overtime By Tennessee Southern, 91–85

DALTON, Ga. – In a back-and-forth matchup at Bandy Gym, Dalton State fell 91–85 in overtime to Tennessee Southern on Thursday night, despite 18 points apiece from Qualen Pettus and Varun Danak and a 14-rebound effort from Danak.

RECAP
FIRST HALF
Dalton State came out fast, building its largest lead of 11 midway through the opening period and taking a 42–33 advantage into the locker room.

Pettus paced the early charge with 14 first-half points on 4-of-5 shooting (3-for-3 from deep), while Miles Ceballos added 10 points off the bench to spark a 17-point bench contribution before the break.

The Roadrunners shot 42.4% from the field and 35.7% from three in the half, while holding the FireHawks to 35.3% overall and 28.6% from long range to secure the nine-point cushion.

SECOND HALF
Tennessee Southern countered after halftime behind De'Marreon Baldwin, who scored 17 after the break as the visitors outscored Dalton State 38–29 to force overtime.

Free throws loomed large: Dalton State went 5–for-21 at the line in the second half (23.8%), allowing the Firehawks to chip away at the lead.

Even so, the Roadrunners had late answers, Danak's free throws at 1:36 put DS up 69–68, and his dunk with 0:58 remaining made it 71–68, before Antonio Cochran hit a game-tying three with 0:34 left. Danak then missed two at the stripe with 0:11 to go, and Mike Bell Jr.'s last-second jumper was off, sending the game to OT at 71–71.

OVERTIME
Bell Jr. opened the extra period with a three at 4:46 and Cochran added another at 4:03, and though Jamori McDougald's triple at 3:04 pulled DS within 79–77, the Firehawks closed with timely shooting and free throws to seal the 91–85 result.

McDougald scored nine in OT for the Roadrunners, while Bell Jr. tallied seven in the frame and Eric Robinson went 5-for-6 at the line to help UTS finish it out.
