DALTON, Ga. — Mid-January at Bandy Gym means more than SSAC basketball, it means giving back. Dalton State will turn its next two home dates into Fill the Feeder games, welcoming UT Southern (Tenn.) on Thursday, January 15 at 7:00 p.m. and Blue Mountain Christian (Miss.) on Saturday, January 17 at 2:00 p.m. The first 100 fans through the door with a non-perishable food item for EACH game will receive either a free General Admission ticket or a ticket for a free popcorn and an opportunity to win a raffle swag bag with Roadrunner athletic gear.
 
Rooted in a tradition highlighted across past Roadrunner basketball contests, Fill the Feeder games rally our campus and community to stock the Birdfeeder, Dalton State's client-choice food pantry serving Roadrunners who are facing food insecurity. The Birdfeeder enables currently enrolled students to pick up groceries and hygiene items once a week, reducing stress and helping students focus on academics. Previous reports have underscored the need: 1,760 visits from 251 users in a single fall term, a reminder that your contribution makes a tangible difference.

HOW CAN YOU HELP ON GAMEDAY
Fans are encouraged to bring shelf-stable foods and personal hygiene items to help "fill the feeder" during both games. Based on past needs shared by the Birdfeeder, the most-requested items include:

• Breakfast items (cereal, toaster pastries)
• Quick meals (microwaveable bowls, Mac & cheese, ramen)
• Condiments & spices (jelly, honey, salt, pepper)
  Note: Historically, the pantry has been well-stocked on green beans and pork & beans, so prioritize other items.

If you prefer to give another way, you can donate monetarily, designate your gift to "Birdfeeder" via the Dalton State Foundation, or schedule a local pick-up by contacting the Birdfeeder (nest@daltonstate.edu / 706-272-2464).
