Roadrunners Battle But Fall At Indiana Wesleyan, 89–70

MARION, Ind. – Dalton State (24–9) fought until the final whistle, but dropped an 89–70 decision to Indiana Wesleyan in the 2nd round of the NAIA Men's Basketball Championship on Saturday afternoon at Luckey Arena in Marion, Ind., despite a team-high 22 points from Qualen Pettus and a 14-point, 9-rebound effort from Omarion Smith.

RECAP
FIRST HALF
Indiana Wesleyan used an early burst to go up 19–10 midway through the half before Dalton State steadied behind perimeter shooting from Jamori McDougald and Raylan Barrion and a triple from Kyoya Sasaki.

The Roadrunners pulled within two at 35–33 on Smith's layup with 1:38 left, but the Wildcats closed the period with a dunk and a free throw to lead 38–33 at the break.

SECOND HALF
Out of halftime, Varun Danak scored inside to make it 38–35 IW, and Smith's finish kept Dalton State within 46–41 at 16:32.

Indiana Wesleyan answered with a 3-pointer and a transition push capped by Marcus Ankney to stretch the margin to 51–43 with 15:15 to go.

Pettus sparked another surge, scoring at the rim and drilling a right-wing three, to bring the Roadrunners to 60–55 at the 8:15 mark, the closest they would get down the stretch.

From there, the Wildcats' Caedmon Bontrager took control with multiple paint touches and free throws, and a late technical foul sequence helped the hosts push the lead out; Indiana Wesleyan's largest advantage reached 24 before closing out the 89–70 final.
