Women's Golf-2025 Carey Collegiate Classic Runner-Up

Burger Wins Carey Collegiate, Kataria Runner-Up as Dalton State Takes Second

HATTIESBURG, Miss. – Dalton State's Sara Burger captured the individual medalist honors, while teammate Jia Kataria finished as the individual runner-up, leading the #6 Lady Roadrunners to a strong second-place team finish at the Carey Collegiate presented by Walk-On's at Canebrake Country Club. Dalton State posted a three-round total of 903 (298-304-301), just seven strokes behind tournament champion #1 Keiser (Fla.) (896).
 
#19 Loyola (La.) claimed third place at 914, while #8 William Carey, the tournament host, finished fourth at 918. #9 Lindsey Wilson rounded out the top five with a score of 928.
 
The competitive leaderboard highlighted the strength of the field, making Dalton State's runner-up finish and top-two individual performances even more impressive.
 
ROUND 1
Dalton State came out strong in the opening round, carding a team score of 298 to sit just two strokes off the lead. Sara Burger led the way with an impressive even-par 72, showing consistency throughout the day. Reese Day followed closely with a 74 (+2), while Jia Kataria and Ella Ahlqvist each posted 76 (+4). Tylah James rounded out the lineup with a 79 (+7).
 
ROUND 2
Dalton State battled through a challenging second round, posting a team score of 304 to remain in the hunt. Sara Burger was outstanding, firing a 70 (-2) to lead the charge, highlighted by birdies on holes 4, 5, and 7. Jia Kataria delivered a steady 73 (+1), while Ella Ahlqvist carded an 80 (+8). Tylah James added an 81 (+9), and Reese Day rounded out the scoring with an 85 (+13).
 
Burger's under-par round kept the Roadrunners within striking distance heading into the final day, setting up an exciting finish.
 
ROUND 3
Dalton State closed strong with a team score of 301 in the final round, led by a stellar performance from Jia Kataria, who fired a 69 (-3) to finish as the individual runner-up. Kataria's clutch birdies down the stretch secured her second place overall. Sara Burger capped off her impressive week with a 2-over 74, earning individual medalist honors. Ella Ahlqvist added a 77 (+5) to finish inside the top 15, while Tylah James posted an 81 (+9) and Reese Day closed with an 83 (+11).

#6 Dalton State will co-host the Invite at Innisbrook with the #4-ranked men's golf team at Innisbrook Resort on September 29-30 in Palm Harbor, Fla.
