Dalton State Edges Reinhardt (Ga.) In Defensive Battle


WALESKA, Ga. - Dalton State secured a hard-fought 1–0 win over Reinhardt (Ga.) at Ken White Field in Waleska on Wednesday evening. In a match defined by defensive grit and goalkeeping heroics, the Roadrunners broke through in the second half to claim their fourth win of the season, improving to 4-1-1 overall. The lone goal came courtesy of Lexi Lyon, whose persistence paid off in the 52nd minute.
 
FIRST HALF
The opening 45 minutes were a showcase of defensive discipline and missed opportunities. Dalton State came out aggressively, with Ria Cox nearly opening the scoring in the first minute, only to hit the crossbar. A penalty kick by Abigail Aman in the 4th minute went wide, and both teams traded fouls and saves throughout the half.
 
Goalkeeper Maggie Rickerd was instrumental, making multiple saves to keep Reinhardt off the board. Despite 17 total shots from Dalton State, the score remained 0–0 at halftime.
 
SECOND HALF
The breakthrough came early in the second half. In the 52nd minute, Lexi Lyon capitalized on a defensive lapse and netted an unassisted goal to give Dalton State the lead.
 
Reinhardt responded with urgency, but Rickerd continued her stellar performance in goal, turning away shot after shot. Substitutions and corner kicks added intensity, but neither side could alter the scoreline. Dalton State held firm through the final whistle to secure the win.
