Dalton State Dominates Talladega In 6–0 Road Victory


TALLADEGA, Ala. - Dalton State delivered a commanding performance on the road Friday afternoon, shutting out Talladega (Ala.) 6–0 at the Multipurpose Field in Talladega, Ala. The Roadrunners (5-1-1) overwhelmed the Tornadoes (2-2) with relentless offensive pressure and a rock-solid defense, securing their fifth win of the season.
 
FIRST HALF
Dalton State wasted no time asserting control, scoring five goals in the opening 30 minutes. Lexi Lyon opened the scoring in the 4th minute off a feed from Amy Wearing. Wearing then assisted Aoife Saunders in the 11th minute before Saunders struck again just two minutes later with an unassisted goal.
 
Lyon added her second in the 19th minute, this time assisted by Sophia Calkins, who then found the back of the net herself in the 29th minute with Lyon returning the favor. The Roadrunners outshot Talladega 9–2 in the first half and earned four corner kicks, keeping the Tornadoes pinned in their own half.
 
SECOND HALF
With a comfortable lead, Dalton State continued to control possession and create chances in the second half. Although Talladega's goalkeeper Alyssa Johnson made five saves after halftime, she couldn't stop Amelia Jesiak's late strike in the 87th minute, assisted by Ria Cox.
 
The Roadrunners added seven more shots and three corner kicks in the second half, while limiting Talladega to just one-shot attempt. Maggie Rickerd preserved the shutout with a first half save and a composed performance throughout.
