#18 Roadrunners Advance To Semifinals With 86-75 Win Over UT Southern (Tenn.)


MONTGOMERY, Ala. – #18 Dalton State moved on in the SSAC Men's Basketball Championship. Defeating UT Southern (Tenn.), 86-75, on Thursday night at the Cramton Bowl Multiplex in Montgomery, Ala.
 
RECAP
Antonio Lewis was the standout performer for Dalton State, scoring a remarkable 27 points, complemented by five rebounds and three assists. His early 3-point shots in the second half set the tone for the Roadrunners. The Birds established an early lead and maintained control throughout the game. The first half concluded with the Roadrunners leading 34-21, punctuated by significant plays, including three treys and 19 first half points from Matt Compas.

The second half saw Dalton State continue to dominate, with Lewis consistently hitting 3-pointers and Compas contributing 25 points total to widen the gap. Key defensive efforts were made by Varun Danak and Omarion Smith, who blocked several shots to thwart the FireHawks' offense. Qualen Pettus also made crucial contributions with six rebounds and two steals, demonstrating a strong defensive performance.
 
THE REST OF THE STORY
#17 Dalton State (Ga.) improves to (24-5 overall) with the win, while UT Southern (Tenn.) falls to (13-15 overall) with the loss. Both squads did not shoot particularly well in the first half, with the Roadrunners at 37.5% and the FireHawks at 28.6%, but it turned around in the second period, with both teams north of 55%.

#18-ranked Dalton State plays again tomorrow, February 28, against the winner of Faulkner (Ala.) and Middle Georgia State. Tip-Off at the Cramton Bowl Multiplex is scheduled for 7:00 p.m. (CT).
