Middle Georgia State Bests #18 Roadrunners 77-66

MONTGOMERY, Ala. – #18-ranked Dalton State Roadrunners succumbed to Middle Georgia State in the semifinals of the SSAC Men's Basketball Championship presented by Newk's Eatery with a final score of 77-66, at the Cramton Bowl Multiplex on Friday night.
 
RECAP
Early in the game, Qualen Pettus led the scoring for Dalton State, establishing an early lead. Notably, Kawasiki Ricks sank a critical three-pointer, and Varun Danak secured a buzzer-beating tip-in, bringing Dalton State's first-period score to 32-26. Matt Compas topped the scoring charts with 17 points, and Omarion Smith led the game in rebounds with a count of 10.
 
Despite a promising first half, the Roadrunners struggled to maintain their tempo in the second period as Middle Georgia rallied back. Jamal Taylor's pivotal plays, including a game-changing three-pointer, the Knights overtook and eventually extended their lead to 13 points by the final buzzer.
 
The Roadrunners displayed commendable effort and leadership through players like Antonio Lewis, Pettus and Kawasiki Ricks, as each provided valuable contributions. However, the Knights' effective second half shooting and defense throughout defined the outcome of this encounter.
 
THE REST OF THE STORY
#18 Dalton State (Ga.) falls to (24-6 overall) with the loss, while Middle Georgia State improves to (19-7 overall) with the win. The second half was the difference in the game with MGA shooting at a 56.2% clip and putting 51 points on the board compared to 40.6% and 34 points for the Birds

#18-ranked Dalton State will wait for seeding in the upcoming NAIA Men's Basketball Championship. They will host first and second round games at Bandy Gym beginning March 14.
