#17 Dalton State Wins SSAC Regular Season Crown


DALTON, Ga. – In a thrilling end to the regular season, #17 Dalton State outclassed (RV) Life, 97-89, at Bandy Gym on Saturday afternoon. The win clinches the SSAC regular season crown and punches the Roadrunners' ticket to the NAIA Men's Basketball National Championship.

The Dalton State men's basketball team set the tone early, with Antonio Lewis making preeminent contributions including a game-high 24 points. The Roadrunners established an early advantage and concluded the first half leading 47-32. Key plays in the first period included a strategic three-pointer by Matt Compas and a sustained scoring effort from Lewis who was instrumental in expanding their lead to as much as 18 points.

The second half saw the Roadrunners continue to dominate, with Kawasiki Ricks scoring 19 points and showcasing his versatility by setting up his teammates with seven assists. Omarion Smith's notable second-half performance, featuring a dunk and subsequent free throws, emboldened Dalton State's control of the game. Despite solid plays from Life's Chaze Harris and Dara Olonade, the Roadrunners maintained their lead, eventually cementing a 97-89 victory.

Dalton State showcased its depth with significant contributions across the board. Qualen Pettus added a versatile 16 points along with a team-high four steals. Matt Compas tallied a balanced stat line with 12 points, six rebounds, and three assists, tying for leading rebounder with Smith and Lewis, each grabbing six boards.
 
THE REST OF THE STORY
#17 Dalton State (Ga.) improves to (23-5 overall, 15-3 SSAC) with the win, while (RV) Life (Ga.) falls to (22-6 overall, 14-4 SSAC) with the loss. DS shot an astounding 57.4% from the field for the game and hit 13 three-pointers. Defensively, the Birds held the Running Eagles to 27.6% from distance and 43.3% from the field.

#17-ranked Dalton State hits the court again on Thursday, February 27 in the SSAC Men's Basketball Tournament at the Cramton Bowl Multiplex in Montgomery, Ala. They will play the winner of UT Southern (Tenn.) and Brewton-Parker (Ga.). Tip-Off is scheduled for 6:15 p.m. (CT).
