#17 Birds Dominate Skyhawks 106-59


DALTON, Ga. – #17 Dalton State showcased why they are one of the top teams in the country with a decisive 106-59 victory over Point (Ga.) in SSAC action at Bandy Gym in Dalton on Thursday night.
 
RECAP
The game opened with Dalton State taking an early lead and never looking back. DS was led by standout performances from Antonio Lewis, Qualen Pettus, and Matt Compas. Pettus ignited the scoring with an opening, setting the tone for the Roadrunners. Throughout the first period, Dalton State expanded their lead, culminating in a 28-point lead highlighted by Compas's dunk at the period's end, marking it 49-22 at halftime.
 
The second period mirrored the first in intensity and effective play; Lewis and Pettus notably extended the lead with crucial three-pointers, while the team's defensive efforts, including blocks from Omarion Smith and Compas, kept the Skyhawks at bay.

Lewis led the scoring for the Birds with 20 points, accompanied by strong performances from Pettus and Compas. Pettus not only added 15 points but also claimed 10 rebounds, showcasing his versatility on the court. Meanwhile, Compas orchestrated the plays, contributing five assists and several key blocks.
 
THE REST OF THE STORY
#17 Dalton State (Ga.) improves to (22-5 overall, 14-3 SSAC) with the win, while Point (Ga.) falls to (4-21 overall, 3-15 SSAC) with the loss. The Birds jumped out to an early 25-0 lead and held the Skyhawks to 27.4% from the field defensively for the game while hitting field goals at 55.7% on the offensive end. DS also pulled down an impressive 57 rebounds and scored 58 points in the paint.

UP NEXT
#17-ranked Dalton State looks to close out the regular season with a conference championship when they take on Life (Ga.) for the SSAC title on Saturday, February 22. It will be a loaded day, with Senior Day occurring before the tip and Homecoming festivities taking place during halftime. Tip-Off at Bandy will be approximately 2:00 p.m.
