Roadrunners Roll Past Covenant, 111–93, For Ninth Win Of The Season


DALTON, Ga. – Dalton State used balanced scoring and crisp ball movement to close out 2025 with a 111–93 home victory over Covenant on Tuesday night at Bandy Gym in Dalton. The Roadrunners shot 50.7% from the field and assisted on 29 of 38 made baskets to improve to 9–4 (3–2 SSAC).
 
RECAP
FIRST HALF
After a back-and-forth opening stretch, Dalton State found its rhythm from deep, highlighted by guard Qualen Pettus splashing three triples before halftime, and took a 52–48 lead into the locker room. Tyshan Kelley went on a flurry late in the period, including a three at 1:05 to extend the lead to seven points, but Fisher Mitchell's trey for Covenant at :09 only trimmed the margin to four at the break. The Roadrunners shot 48.6% in the half, went 7-for-13 from beyond the arc, and tallied 13 assists; Covenant countered at 51.4% with five threes.
 
SECOND HALF
Dalton State opened the second half with another Pettus three at 19:30 and steadily created separation behind a dominant stretch from Omarion Smith, who piled up finishes at the rim, including dunks at 6:40 and 5:48, and midrange jumpers.
A technical foul assessed to Covenant at 5:16 yielded an extra point for the Roadrunners, and Ja'Ron Briggs punctuated the surge with a dunk at 5:29.
Dalton State outscored Covenant 59–45 after halftime, shooting 52.6% from the field, and reached its largest lead of 19 with 2:44 remaining to close it out.
