Dalton State Falls At #3 Cumberlands (Ky.)

WILLIAMSBURG, Ky. – Dalton State dropped a tough road contest at #3 Cumberlands (Ky.) on Saturday afternoon, 80–72, in Williamsburg, Ky. after a blistering end-of-half run before halftime by the Patriots created a gap the Roadrunners couldn't fully close

RECAP
FIRST HALF
Dalton State started fast, building a nine-point lead at 30–21 behind efficient mid-range finishing and interior touches. Cumberlands answered decisively, closing the half on a 24–2 burst over the final four minutes, highlighted by Brant Smithers' two triples and a Malachi Robinson steal-and-score, to take a 49–36 advantage at the break. Dalton State shot 48.3% from the field in the opening 20 minutes, but Cumberlands' 8-for-17 (47.1%) shooting from three proved the difference before halftime

SECOND HALF
The Roadrunners tightened the screws defensively, holding Cumberlands to 27.8% shooting and just 1-for-15 from deep in the second stanza while chipping the margin down to single digits late. Omarion Smith's tip-in with 3:16 remaining made it 70-62, and Dalton State kept pressing, but a sequence in the final minute, including a technical on Dalton State that Andrew McConnell converted into four straight free throws, allowed Cumberlands to keep the cushion and close it out. Dalton State won the half 36–31, but the first-half run proved too much to overcome.
