#1 Dalton State Falls 2-0 to UT Southern (Tenn.) Despite Strong Second-Half Push

DALTON, Ga. — #1 Dalton State battled hard but couldn't overcome an early deficit, falling 2-0 to UT Southern (Tenn.) on Wednesday evening at Dalton Stadium. The Roadrunners outshot the FireHawks 11-4 and dominated corner kicks 9-1, but two first-half goals proved decisive.

FIRST HALF
UT Southern struck first in the 16th minute when Daquan Duhaney capitalized on a loose ball for an unassisted goal. The FireHawks doubled their lead in the 30th minute as George Grice found the back of the net, also unassisted. Dalton State created chances with three first-half shots and multiple corners but couldn't break through goalkeeper Louis Hester, who recorded three saves before halftime.

SECOND HALF
The Roadrunners came out aggressive after the break, firing eight shots and earning six corner kicks in the second half. Dalton State's best opportunities came from Sergej Misic and Jaime Mendiola, but Hester stood tall, finishing with five saves on the night. Despite controlling possession and pressing forward, Dalton State couldn't convert, while goalkeeper Nestor Mendez made a key save to keep the deficit at two.
