No. 10 Dalton State Battles To 1-1 Draw At Mobile After Late Equalizer


MOBILE, Ala. — The 10th-ranked Dalton State Roadrunners showed resilience on the road Thursday night, earning a 1-1 draw against SSAC rival Mobile (Ala.) at The Jungle in Mobile (Ala.). After trailing for over 70 minutes, Dalton State found the equalizer in the closing stages to preserve a crucial point in conference play.
 
FIRST HALF
Mobile struck first in the 11th minute when James Kwakye capitalized on a loose ball and fired home an unassisted goal to give the Rams a 1-0 lead. Dalton State struggled to find rhythm early, managing just three shots in the opening half compared to Mobile's three. The Roadrunners' best chance came from Sergej Misic, whose effort sailed high in the 33rd minute. Both teams exchanged fouls in a physical half that saw yellow cards issued to Mobile's Eugenio Cazares and Dalton State goalkeeper Nestor Mendez in the 42nd minute.
 
SECOND HALF
Dalton State came out aggressive after the break, firing 11 shots in the second half and earning three corner kicks. The Roadrunners nearly leveled the match in the 48th minute when Misic stepped up for a penalty kick, but his attempt went wide. Mobile's defense held firm until the 82nd minute when substitute Caio Leijoto delivered the equalizer with a composed finish, his first goal of the season. Both teams pushed for a winner in the final minutes, but key saves from Mendez and Mobile's Sam MacDonald kept the score locked at 1-1.
