(RV) Dalton State Runs Past Skyhawks


WEST POINT, Ga. – (RV) Dalton State jumped out to an early lead and never looked back as they took care of business on the road with a 91-55 win over Point (Ga.) in SSAC action in West Point on Saturday evening.
 
THE FIRST HALF
  • Antonio Lewis scored the first five points of the game, then Matt Compas, Qualen Pettus, Omarion Smith, and Kawasiki Ricks got involved as the entire starting five rattled off buckets in building an 18-2 lead in the first seven minutes.
  • Carterius Evans hit a layup with 6:59 until the half to put the Birds up by 20 points at 31-11.
  • Twenty-two points (36-14) became the advantage after Omarion Smith hit 1-fo-2 from the free throw line.
  • Antwon Ferrell hit a three-ball in the final seconds of the period, but the damage was already done as DS carried a 39-21 lead into the break.
THE SECOND HALF
  • After trading buckets for the first three minutes, Lewis extended the lead to 23 points after a three-pointer to make the score 48-25.
  • The rout continued as Marc Pilcher hit a trey, then Varun Danak slammed one home for a 27-point advantage (64-37).
  • Kevin Henry played strong off the bench netting five straight points along with a few more from Evans and charity stripe specials from Leroy Ikejiaku to grow the lead to 37 points at 89-52.
  • Evans and Ikejiaku closed the game out in the lane with baskets as the Birds cruised to a 91-55 win.
THE REST OF THE STORY:
Dalton State (Ga.) improves to (14-2 overall, 8-0 SSAC) with the win, while Point (Ga.) falls to (3-12 overall, 2-6 SSAC) with the loss. Kevin Henry led the Birds in scoring with 18 points and five rebounds in 17 minutes of action. Antonio Lewis hit three triples and collected 17 points. Matt Compas was the last Roadrunner in double-figures with 11 points and five boards. Twelve Roadrunners scored at least two points in the game.
 
Vince Graves led the Skyhawks with 13 points. Antwon Ferrell was the last player in double-digits for either squad, scoring 11 points and four rebounds.

BY THE NUMBERS
DS dominated the game from the jump, racking up a 42-24 advantage in the paint and 38-22 on the glass. They also forced 18 turnovers, which they turned into 29 points on the offensive side. All twelve Roadrunners that played scored at least two points. The Birds shot over 50% from the field for the second straight game and held the Skyhawks to just over 40%.

UP NEXT
(RV) Dalton State will begin a five-game homestand with their next matchup, which comes on Thursday, January 16, when the Roadrunners host Thomas (Ga.). Tip-Off at Bandy Gym is scheduled for 7:00 p.m.
