Roadrunners Open SSAC Play By Thrashing #20 Life On The Road

MARIETTA, Ga. – Dalton State got back on the winning side of basketball while, at the same time, opening up SSAC play with a huge win as they pounded #20 Life (Ga.) 92-69 at The Eagles Nest in Marietta on Thursday night.

THE FIRST HALF
  • Early treys from Antonio Lewis and Qualen Pettus, along with tough inside drives to the basket from Matt Compass, gave the Birds an early 10-8 lead just under 4 minutes into the game.
  • A 6-0 spurt from Life saw them take a 14-10 lead almost two minutes later.
  • Kevin Henry, Kyoya Sasaki, and Tyshan Kelley got in on the act hitting three balls to put the Birds back up (25-18) with 8:56 left in the half.
  • The game remained tight with the Running Eagles getting the advantage with 5:32 remaining at 29-28.
  • A Henry trey and a Pettus lay-in got the Roadrunners back on top at 33-29 a little over a minute later.
  • DS began to pull away after another Pettus three-ball at the 2:35 mark for a 40-35 lead.
  • It was an 8-5 close to the half for Dalton State as they went into halftime with a 48-40 lead.
THE SECOND HALF
  • Tyreke Johnson hit a three for Life to begin the second half, but Dalton State countered with a layup from Compas to keep the Running Eagles at bay.
  • Compas' bucket keyed a 10-2 run from the Birds as they began to take control of the game as the score stood at 60-46 five minutes into the second period.
  • After a Sasaki three-pointer made the score 67-55 halfway through the second, Life reeled off seven straight points to cut the Roadrunner lead to seven at 67-60.
  • Dalton State once again answered and took back momentum with a 13-4 run of their own for a 16-point lead (80-64) with 4:24 remaining.
  • Life couldn't find a groove as the Roadrunners stretched out their biggest lead of the contest at the end with two three-pointers coming from Pettus and Kawasiki Ricks for a 92-69 road win.

BY THE NUMBERS
