#1 Roadrunners Take Down #3 Rams


DALTON, Ga. – A matchup of top five ranked teams lived up to the billing as #1 Dalton State prevailed on home turf with a 2-0 defeat of #3 Mobile (Ala.) in the SSAC Game of the Week at Dalton Stadium on Friday night.
 
HOW IT HAPPENED
FIRST HALF
  • NO SCORING
SECOND HALF
  • (1-0 DS) DS: Dalton State created a scoring play off a free kick that led to Giovanni Poliero chipping a ball over Ram goalkeeper Ty Turner that Jack Stainrod headed into the upper 90 in the 73'.
  • (2-0 DS) DS: With Mobile pressing for the equalizer in the 90', a defensive stand turned into an offensive runout led by Jip van den Essen as he found a trailing Jamie Mendiola who hit a sliding finisher into the back of the net. Giovanni Poliero and Jip van den Essen both got assists on the night.
THE REST OF THE STORY
#1 Dalton State (Ga.) improves to (10-0-1 overall, 4-0-1 SSAC) on the season with the win, while #3 Mobile (Ala.) falls to (10-2-1 overall, 5-1-0 SSAC) with the loss. Jack Stainrod scored his 6th goal of the year, with Jamie Mendiola collecting his 1st.
 
The defense made Nicolas Leite's night easy in goal as one of three Mobile shots was close to net. No shots for the Rams were on goal.
 
UP NEXT
The schedule doesn't get any easier for the Birds as they host #12 William Carey (Miss.) on Sunday, October 13. Kickoff is set for 4:00 p.m. between the Roadrunners and Crusaders.
