Roadrunners On A Winning Streak With Victory Over Point (Ga.)

WEST POINT, Ga. – After a tight beginning, Dalton State gained control in the second half en route to a 69-58 SSAC road victory over Point (Ga.) in West Point on Saturday afternoon. It's the third-straight win for the Roadrunners, their longest winning streak of the season.

THE FIRST HALF
  • Point established an early lead, but it was slim as Ellis Lee, Matt Compas, and Donavan Miller made buckets to tie the game at 11-11 at the 13:40 mark.
  • The middle part of the first half featured 4 ties and 5 lead changes before free throws from Kawasiki Ricks and Carterius Evans, plus a well-timed trey from Miller gave the Roadrunners a 6-point lead (27-21) with 4:27 until halftime.
  • Sam Rees and Justice Hayes hit back-to-back three-pointers for Point to tie the game again, but Compas, Evans, and Harrison Eghan hit buckets before the half to give DS a 35-29 lead at the break.
THE SECOND HALF
  • Hayes hit a trey for the Skyhawks to open the second half, but Eghan, Compas, and Miller kept the Roadrunners out in front 49-43 with 13:08 to go.
  • Ricks, Compas, and Allon Johnson helped the Birds extend their lead to 11 points (56-45) with 9:12 remaining.
  • Johnson and Franklin Almonte did hard work in the paint on both sides of the ball to get the lead to 18 points (69-51) with 3:09 left.
  • The defense did the rest down the stretch as the Roadrunners left West Point with a 69-58 win.

Sam Rees led the Skyhawks with 15 points and 3 rebounds, hitting 3 of Point's 6 three-pointers. Justice Hayes scored 11 points and snagged 9 rebounds, connecting on the Skyhawks other 3 treys.
