Birds Get It Done On The Road As Miller Ties All-Time Assist Record

MOUNT VERNON, Ga. – Donavan Miller led all scorers while also tying the career assist record at Dalton State as he propelled the Roadrunners to a 71-60 win over Brewton-Parker (Ga.) at Gillis Gymnasium in Mount Vernon on Wednesday evening.

THE FIRST HALF
  • Brewton-Parker took an early 5-4 lead after a three-ball from Zailan Blue, but quick work from Donavan Miller and Carterius Evans gave the Birds an 8-5 lead at the 15:58 mark.
  • After a Baron free-throw, Ellis Lee, Harrison Eghan, and Matt Compas scored during a 6-0 to pull out a 14-6 lead with 13:07 left in the half.
  • Jordan Johnson went bonkers from distance shortly after, nailing 3 consecutive three-pointers to make it a 19-15 game just shy of the 10-minute mark.
  • Effective three-point shooting on a 10-2 run kept B-P in the game in the first half, allowing them to creep out to a 27-23 lead with 5:59 remaining.
  • After a DS timeout to halt the Baron attack, the Roadrunners answered with 17-2 run to close out the period and take an 11-point lead (40-29) into halftime.
THE SECOND HALF
  • Jordan Johnson continued to be lethal from long range as he started the second period with another trey to make it a 40-32 game in favor of Dalton State.
  • Miller, Evans, Lee, and Compas did their part in trying to hold the Barons off with key buckets to halt the B-P momentum as the score stood at 52-37 after a Miller three-pointer with 14:09 on the clock.
  • Brewton-Parker would not go away as Blue, and Ferlin Joseph Jr. keyed a 10-2 run that Johnson capped with another three to pull within 3 points at 59-56 with 6:26 left in regulation.
  • Miller hit a clutch trey to stall the run, but Lance Smith answered with a three on the next Baron possession to keep it a 3-point game (62-59) just before the final media timeout.
  • Out of the timeout, neither team could mount much of an attack, as it looked like a different game, with Dalton State scoring the only points over a 5-minute stretch to take a 67-59 lead into the final minute of play.
  • Miller would ice it from the line down the stretch as the Birds took the dub, 71-60.
