Birds Bounce Back With Victory Over In-State Knights

COCHRAN, Ga. – After some early struggles, the Roadrunners clamped down on defense and converted chances on the offensive end to grab a key 77-71 road win at Middle Georgia State in Cochran on Saturday afternoon.

THE FIRST HALF
  • Middle Georgia jumped out to an early lead, but 5 straight points from Ellis Lee tied the game at 10-10 five minutes in.
  • It remained a close game with five lead changes over the next 5 minutes as the score stayed tied, this time at 20-20 with 10:10 on the clock.
  • A 7-0 run over the next 2 and a half minutes from the Roadrunners saw them take a 27-20 lead with 7:28 until halftime.
  • Dalton State went stone cold from the floor after as Middle Georgia State closed the half with a 16-2 run to take a 36-29 lead into the break.
THE SECOND HALF
  • DS used the first five minutes of the half to chip away at the deficit with buckets from Carterius Evans and Matt Compas and tie the game at 43-43, but Pierles Brown responded with back-to-back treys to make it a 6-point game again.
  • Allon Johnson, Kawasiki Ricks, and Kevin Henry got in on the act as well as the Roadrunners flipped the script and took a 9-point advantage of their own at 62-53 with 6:34 to go.
  • Johnson reeled off 6 straight points as the lead climbed into double-digits (68-57) with 3:34 left.
  • Six points is as close as the Kinghts would get again as the Roadrunners held on for a 77-71 conference road win.
THE REST OF THE STORY
Dalton State (Ga.) improves to (10-7 overall, 6-4 SSAC) with the win, while Middle Georgia State falls to (4-10 overall, 0-8 SSAC) with the loss.
