Women's Soccer Falls To Life (Ga.) in SSAC Opener


DALTON, Ga. – Dalton State put together a comeback effort after falling behind at halftime but couldn't get the late equalizer as Life (Ga.) held on for a 3-2 victory over the Lady Roadrunners in the SSAC opener at Dalton Stadium on Sunday afternoon.
 
 HOW IT HAPPENED
 FIRST HALF 
  • (1-0 LU) LU: Tio Krizogono got Life on the board first in the 11' when Lilja Bjorg Olafsdot threaded a ball in the box that Krizogono re-directed into the net.
  • (1-1 T) DS: Guadalupe Martinez evened the score in the 21' when Emma Johnson raced downfield and crossed a ball in front of the goal Martinez put in the back of the net.
  • (2-1 LU) LU: Life went back in front in the 35' when Sara Diaz and Sacha Millward connected, with Diaz getting the score.
  • (3-1 LU) LU: Anakah Madril padded the Running Eagle lead just before halftime as she fired a ball from the top of the box and past a diving Brooke Alvarez in the 45'.
SECOND HALF 
  • (3-2 LU) DS: The Lady Roadrunners but the deficit to 1-score in the 77' when Ana Silva found Lauren Wright in box with Wright kicking it through a scrum of players.
THE REST OF THE STORY
Dalton State (Ga.) falls to (3-2-1 overall, 0-1 SSAC) with the loss. At the same time, Life (Ga.) improved to (3-2 overall, 1-0 SSAC) following the win. Guadalupe Martinez and Lauren Wright each scored for the Lady Birds, with Emma Johnson and Ana Silva picking up assists.
 
Defensively, Dalton State encountered a host of shots, with 25 coming off the boots of Running Eagle players. In contrast, Dalton State got 8 shots off. Fifteen of the Running Eagles 25 shots were on frame as Brooke Alvarez collected 12 saves. DS scored on two of the three shots they put on goal.
 
UP NEXT
Dalton State will have another tough test upcoming as they take on Brewton-Parker (Ga.) at Dalton Stadium on Wednesday, September 20. Kick-Off is scheduled for 5:00 p.m.
