Lady Birds Bounce Back From Loss With Big Win Over Brewton-Parker (Ga.)


DALTON, Ga. – It was a breakout night for Dalton State women's soccer as they took advantage of opportunities in the form of five goals on their way to a 5-0 rout of Brewton-Parker (Ga.) in SSAC action at Dalton Stadium on Wednesday evening.
 
 HOW IT HAPPENED
 FIRST HALF 
  • (1-0 DS) DS: It was a quick start for the Lady Roadrunners as Lesley Alanis found Emma Johnson for the day's first goal in the 2'.
  • (2-0 DS) DS: Just under a minute later, Ava Vandoren put the second goal on the board as she hooked up with Delaney Owen.
  • (3-0 DS) DS: Great ball movement led to the third score when Alanis created a play that led to Guadalupe Martinez finding Ria Cox in the 20'.
  • (4-0 DS) DS: Goal number four occurred in the 42' as more great passing from Owen and Molly Duncan led to them finding Nicole Perez cutting on the wing and beating the goalkeeper.
SECOND HALF 
  • (5-0 DS) DS: Owen sent a through pass to Cox in the 63' who beat a defender and set the ball into net for the fifth and final score of the evening.
THE REST OF THE STORY
Dalton State (Ga.) improves to (4-2-1 overall, 1-1 SSAC) with the win, while Brewton-Parker (Ga.) falls to (0-3-1 overall, 0-1 SSAC) following the loss. It's the first win for the Lady Roadrunners over Brewton-Parker since 2017, when Dalton State prevailed 12-1.
 
Ria Cox collected two goals, with Nicole Perez, Emma Johnson, and Ava Vandoren each scoring 1. Delaney Owen was the setup artist of the day with three assists. Lesley Alanis got two assists of her own as Molly Duncan and Guadalupe Martinez were also credited with an assist on continuous, double-assisted scoring plays.
 
The Lady Birds outshot the Barons 20-4 overall and 12-0 on goal. Brooke Alvarez collects the clean sheet in the win.
 
UP NEXT
Dalton State takes on another in-state team with they battle Middle Georgia at Dalton Stadium on Sunday, September 24. Kick-Off is scheduled 1:30 p.m.
