#2 Roadrunners Fall In SSAC Semis To #9 William Carey


MONTGOMERY, Ala. – #2-ranked Dalton State closed the gap late but couldn't find the equalizer as #9 William Carey (Miss.) went up by two goals in the second half and held on for a 2-1 win the Roadrunners in the semifinal round of the SSAC Men's Soccer Tournament at Emory Folmar YMCA Complex in Montgomery, Ala. on Wednesday night.
 
HOW IT HAPPENED
FIRST HALF
  • (1-0 WC) WC: Jack Greenwood got the Crusaders on the board just before halftime with an assist from Alessandro Villarreal.
SECOND HALF
  • (2-0 WC) WC: Jamie Wynne made it a two-goal deficit for the Birds in the 55' when he knocked a goal home in connection with Djordje Djukovic.
  • (2-1 WC) DS: Guilherme Franca closed the gap and got the goose egg off the board in the 87' with a goal.
THE REST OF THE STORY
#2 Dalton State (Ga.) falls to (12-2-3 overall) with the win, while #9 William Carey (Miss.) improves to (16-3-1 overall) with the win, and advances to face #6 Mobile (Ala.) in the SSAC Tournament final on Friday, November 10.
 
UP NEXT
#2-ranked Dalton State wait on their seeding in the NAIA Men's Soccer Championship. With such a high ranking, the Birds are poised to host an opening round match. They will know their opponent on Monday, November 13 when the NAIA announces the 40-team field.
