Birds Punch Ticket To Wichita With 4-1 Win Over UC Merced


DALTON, Ga. – #4-seed Dalton State took off in the second half with four goals to claim a 4-1 win over UC Merced (Calif.) in the 2nd round of the NAIA Men's Soccer Championship at Dalton Stadium in Dalton on Saturday evening.
 
HOW IT HAPPENED
FIRST HALF

SECOND HALF
  • (1-0 DS) DS: Jimson St. Louis crossed a ball to Jack Stainrod in the 49' to get the Roadrunners on the board first.
  • (2-0 DS) DS: Goal #2 came in the 55' when Juan Demechelis and Josh Ramos teamed up with Ramos getting the score.
  • (3-0 DS) DS: Kazuma Ishizuka came off the bench in the 62' and notched a score in the 63' for a comfortable three-goal lead.
  • (3-1 DS) UCM: Roberto Ceja closed the gap to two goals in the 70' when he scored after a pass from Kevin Capetillo.
  • (4-1 DS) DS: Rasmus Andersson lined up for a free kick in the 74' and booted it into the box where Demechelis knocked it to Jack Brown, who hit the open net for the final goal of the match.
THE REST OF THE STORY
#4-seed Dalton State (Ga.) improves to (13-2-3 overall) with the win, while (RV) UC Merced (Calif.) ends the season at (13-4-3 overall) with the loss. Jack Stainrod added to his team lead in goals, while Josh Ramos, Kazuma Ishizuka, and Jack Brown also collected scores.
 
Juan Demechelis recorded two assists, with Ramos, Jimson St. Louis, and Rasmus Andersson also attributing to goals. Michael Barrueta faced three shots on goal and nabbed two saves on the night.
 
UP NEXT
The #4-seed Roadrunners advance to the NAIA Final Site in Wichita, Kan. that begins Monday, November 27 at Stryker Sports Complex. DS will face William Penn (Iowa) at 4:00 p.m. (CT).
