Roadrunners Bounce Back With Rout Of Barons


DALTON, Ga. – Dalton State got back on the winning train in a big way, routing Brewton-Parker (Ga.) 98-69 in SSAC action at Bandy Gym in Dalton on Saturday afternoon.
 
THE FIRST HALF
  • Brewton-Parker had the intensity from the start jumping out to an 11-6 lead just under 4 minutes into the game and forcing a Dalton State timeout.
  • Out of the timeout, the Birds responded with a 13-2 run as Donavan Miller, Harrison Eghan, and Ellis Lee hit three-balls to gain a 19-13 lead with 11:51 on the clock.
  • The lead maintained between 6 and 9 points with Franklin Almonte, Carterius Evans, and Antonio Lewis contributing baskets.
  • An Eghan free throw at the 1:31 mark got the lead in double-digits for the first time as Dalton State carried a 46-36 lead into halftime.
THE SECOND HALF
  • The lead quickly stretched to 15 points (51-36) after an Eghan trey and a jumper from Matt Compas.
  • B-P tried to shrink the deficit, but DS responded at every turn to keep the lead in double-digits, with the score standing at 78-64 with 6:24 remaining in regulation.
  • Down the stretch, the Roadrunners turned it on with a 20-5 run to end the game with a 98-69 win.
THE REST OF THE STORY
Dalton State (Ga.) improves to (5-3 overall, 3-0 SSAC) with the win, while Brewton-Parker (Ga.) falls to (4-7 overall, 0-3 SSAC) with the loss. Harrison Eghan hit 5 triples for 19 points and 6 rebounds to lead the Roadrunners. Franklin Almonte chipped in a double-double with 14 points and 10 boards.
 
Antonio Lewis hit three shots from distance for 11 points, while Donavan Miller and Matt Compas had 10 points each. Miller added 8 dimes, with Compas pulling down 3 rebounds.
 
Lance Smith tied Eghan for the game-high in points with 19, adding 4 assists, and 3 rebounds. Dre Burroughs was the other Baron in double-figures with 15 points. Grant Sanders barely missed a double-double with 9 points and 10 rebounds.

BY THE NUMBERS
B-P used their length to out-rebound DS 41-36, the first game all season the Roadrunners have been beaten on the glass. It was a hot shooting night for the Birds as they hit 15 triples and shot at a 46.6% clip from the field. Defensively, Dalton State held Brewton-Parker to 34.2% for the game and 29.73% in the second half.

DS hits the road again to take on Blue Mountain Christian (Miss.). The Roadrunners and Toppers will tip-off at 7:30 p.m. (CT) on Thursday, November 30, in Blue Mountain, Miss.
