#2 Roadrunners Advance To Semifinals Of SSAC Tournament With 4-0 Win Over In-State Life (Ga.)


DALTON, Ga. – The #2-ranked Dalton State Roadrunners reversed outcomes from the 2022 season on Thursday night, defeating Life (Ga.) 4-0 and eliminating the Running Eagles from the Southern States Athletic Conference Tournament. The victory comes almost exactly a year after the Birds were put out by the same team, this time advancing to the SSAC Semifinals.
 
HOW IT HAPPENED
FIRST HALF SECOND HALF
  • (2-0 DS) DS: After strong defensive efforts by both teams during most of the 2nd portion of play, the Roadrunners began their strong run in the 81' thanks to a Josh Ramos goal, assisted by Rasmus Andersson.
  • (3-0 DS) DS: Considering the high stakes, the game grew more and more chippy as the clock dwindled, with Life (Ga.) receiving multiple cards during the moments before Josh Ramos tallied his 2nd goal of the night in the 87', led by a pass from Guilherme Franca.
  • (4-0 DS) DS: Guilherme Franca would follow that assist and cap off the night in the 89', securing the win and ensuring the Roadrunners' advancement to the next round of the SSAC Tournament.
THE REST OF THE STORY
#2 Dalton State (Ga.) improves their record to (12-1-3 overall, 8-1-1 SSAC) with the victory. At the same time, Life (Ga.) ends their 2023 season with a record of (5-7-3 overall, 3-5-2 SSAC) following the loss. After the two squads tied in their 1st meeting, the Birds controlled the match from the beginning, never trailing and outshooting Life (Ga.) 12-7 overall and 7-1 in the second half. Michael Barrueta finished the day with 2 saves and prevented multiple scoring opportunities.
 
UP NEXT
Dalton State will move on to the SSAC Semifinals on Wednesday, November 8, with the opponent and time still to be determined. The match will occur in Montgomery, Ala., at Emory Folmar YMCA Complex.
