#9 Roadrunners Take Down Eagles


DALTON, Ga. – The Roadrunners scored early and put up another stout defensive effort in a 4-1 home win over Reinhardt in non-conference soccer action at Dalton Stadium in Dalton on Wednesday night.
 
HOW IT HAPPENED
FIRST HALF
  • (1-0 DS) DS: Dalton State pressed for a goal early in the match and were rewarded in the 3' when Justin Riescher caught a loose ball in front of the net and put it home for a 1-0 lead.
  • (2-0 DS) DS: Goal two came a little over two minutes later in the 5' as Josh Ramos found Riescher in the box who fired it past a diving goalkeeper.
  • (3-0 DS) DS: Cristiano Catarino sped down the left flank and connected a cross to Leonardo Seixas who did the rest to give DS a comfortable 3-goal lead.
SECOND HALF
  • (3-1 DS) RU: Blake White picked up a loose ball off a rebound to get the Eagles on the board in the 51'.
  • (4-1 DS) DS: Seixas intercepted a ball in Reinhardt territory and went 2-v-1 beating the defender and the goalkeeper to put the match out of reach in the 59'.
THE REST OF THE STORY
#9 Dalton State (Ga.) goes to (6-0-2 overall) with the win, while Reinhardt (Ga.) falls to (2-4-1 overall) with the loss. Justin Riescher and Leonardo Seixas each scored twice with Cristiano Catarino collecting an assist. With the two goals, Riescher extends his program lead in career goals scored with 47 and surpasses Santiago Moore for career points with 106.
 
DS held the shot advantage at 17-10 only allowing Reinhardt to 2 on frame. In contrast, the Birds put 8 shots on point. The Eagles turned up the intensity in the second half taking 7 of their 10 shots in the period.

UP NEXT
Conference play begins next for the #9 Birds as they travel to Mount Vernon to take on Brewton-Parker (Ga.) on Saturday, September 24. Kickoff is scheduled for 4:00 p.m. at BPC Soccer Field.
