#15 Roadrunners Survive Early Bite From Bulldogs To Draw Tie


ATHENS, Tenn. –#15 Dalton State got a stiff road test but battled back from a 2-0 deficit to draw a 2-2 tie against Tennessee Wesleyan at TWU Athletic Complex in Athens, Tenn. on Tuesday evening.
 
HOW IT HAPPENED
FIRST HALF
  • (1-0 TW) TW: Wynand Wessels capitalized on a free kick in the 16' to put the Bulldogs up 1-0
  • (2-0 TW) TW: The Bulldogs got on the board again in the 33' when Cian Gantley found Billy Boag for a 2-goal lead.
 
SECOND HALF
  • (2-1 TW) DS: The Roadrunners began the comeback shortly after halftime when Justin Riescher scored on an assist from Josh Ramos to cut the deficit to 1 goal.
  • (2-2 T) DS: Ramos added the equalizer in the 79' to tie the match at 2-all.
 
THE REST OF THE STORY
#15 Dalton State (Ga.) goes to (2-0-1 overall) with the, while Tennessee Wesleyan sits at (1-0-3 overall) with the tie. Freshman Josh Ramos collected a goal, his 2nd of the season, and an assist on the day with Justin Riescher getting his 4th goal in 3 matches.
 
The Birds outshot the Bulldogs 10-7 overall, but Tennessee Wesleyan held a narrow advantage in shots on goal at 4-3. Michael Barrueta netted 2 saves with Michael Garrihy getting 1 for Tennessee Wesleyan.
 
The match was physical with 10 yellow cards issued. The Bulldogs collected 6 with the Birds catching 4.

#15 Dalton State will get their 3rd Appalachian Athletic Conference opponent-in-a-row on Saturday when they host #20 Milligan (Tenn.) at Dalton Stadium. Kickoff for the match is scheduled for 6:30 p.m.
