#15 Roadrunners Win Big In Season Opener


DALTON, Ga. – #15 Dalton State got the season off to a rocking start on Thursday with an 8-0 win over Johnson (Tenn.) at Lakeshore Park Soccer Complex in Dalton.
 
HOW IT HAPPENED
FIRST HALF
  • (1-0 DS) DS: Leonardo Seixas scored in his 1st match for the Birds with a goal in the 14' on an assist from Justin Riescher.
  • (2-0 DS) DS: Riescher scored his 1st goal of the season on a rebound in front of the net.
  • (3-0 DS) DS: Josh Ramos started his career as a Roadrunner off with a goal in the 39' with Riescher nabbing his 2nd assist.
  • (4-0 DS) DS: Riescher scored his 2nd goal on a double touch pass from Guilherme Franca and Jamie Mendiola.
  • (5-0 DS) DS: Cristiano Catarino delivered a goal just before the half to put the Roadrunners up big.
 
SECOND HALF
  • (6-0 DS) DS: Connor Nixon hit a beautiful cross to freshman Filemon Quintero in the 48' for their 1st assist and goal respectively on the year.
  • (7-0 DS) DS: Catarino took a pass from Frank Rodriguez and re-directed it into goal by way of an amazing bicycle kick in the 56'.
  • (8-0 DS) DS: Jurgen Ramirez finished off a PK in the 66' after the Royal goalkeeper illegally touched the ball outside of the box.
 
THE REST OF THE STORY
#15 Dalton State (Ga.) improves to (1-0 overall) with the win, while Johnson (Tenn.) falls to (0-1 overall) on the young season with the loss.
 
Justin Riescher led the birds with 2 goals and 2 assists. The 2-time All-American and 2021 SSAC Men's Soccer Player of the Year is primed for another big season.
 
Cristiano Catarino also had two goals including a spectacular bicycle kick screamer on an assist from Frank Rodriguez. Freshman Josh Ramos and junior Leonardo Seixas also scored for the first team squad.
 
Filemon Quintero and Jurgen Ramirez also got on the board with Connor Nixon also tallying an assist.
 
The defense was stout not allowing a shot all evening and not letting the Royals into the Dalton State zone.

UP NEXT
#15-ranked Roadrunners will hit the road to take on Bryan (Tenn.) on Wednesday, August 24. Kickoff in Dayton, Tenn. is scheduled for 7:00 p.m.
