#1 Birds Run Shutout Streak To Five With 2-0 Win At Middle Georgia


COCHRAN, Ga. – The #1-ranked Roadrunners moved one step closer to their 2nd SSAC regular season title and recorded their 5th straight shutout in the process with a 2-0 road win at Middle Georgia State in SSAC soccer action at NeSmith Field in Cochran on Thursday night.
 
HOW IT HAPPENED
FIRST HALF
  • (1-0 DS) DS: Justin Riescher tapped a pass forward in the 12' after a squashed set piece and found Zachary Perry all alone in front of the Middle Georgia net for the goal.
  • (2-0 DS) DS: Riescher did his best work finding others on this night as he got his second assist when he hit Javier Morejon with a cross in the 44' for the 2nd DS goal.

THE REST OF THE STORY
#1 Dalton State (Ga.) improves (13-0-3 overall, 6-0-1 SSAC) with the win, while Middle Georgia State falls to (1-13-1 overall, 1-6-1 SSAC) with the loss. Zachary Perry got his 1st score of the year, while Javier Morejon collected his 5th of the season. Justin Riescher assisted both goals and now has 5 on the season and a team leading 29 points.
 
The stingy Dalton State defense made it a lite night for Michael Barrueta only allowing 3 total shots and 0 on goal. The Birds took 11 shots overall with 8 coming on frame.

UP NEXT
One match is left for the #1 Roadrunners as they finish the regular season on Saturday, October 29 when they travel to Mount Vernon to take on Brewton-Parker (Ga.). Kickoff is scheduled for 3:30 p.m.
