#1 Roadrunners Backup New Ranking With Shutout Victory


DALTON, Ga. – Dalton State took their newly cemented #1 ranking to the field on proved that they were worthy of the honor blanking Blue Mountain (Miss.) 3-0 in Southern States Athletic Conference action at Dalton Stadium in Dalton in the regular season home finale on Wednesday night.
 
HOW IT HAPPENED
FIRST HALF
  • (1-0 DS) DS: The Roadrunners had some early opportunities but couldn't find the back of the net until the 34' when Zachary Perry sent a lead pass up the right flank to a sprinting Cristiano Catarino who crossed to Leonardo Seixas for the finish.
SECOND HALF
  • (2-0 DS) DS: Josh Ramos started the next scoring play with some fancy footwork to clear his defender and send a pass into the box that Jamie Mendiola skied for and headed into the net in the 50'.
  • (3-0 DS) DS: Seixas took a pass off a previously busted set piece off a corner kick and sent it from one side of the field to the other to a waiting Noah Cicoria who headed it to Ramos for goal #3 in the 70'.
THE REST OF THE STORY
#1 Dalton State (Ga.) improves (11-0-3 overall, 4-0-1 SSAC) with the win, while Blue Mountain (Miss.) falls to (5-7-2 overall, 2-2-2) with the loss. Leonardo Seixas and Josh Ramos got goals 6 and 5 respectively on the season with Jamie Mendiola getting his 2nd.
 
Seixas and Ramos each got their 4th assist along with Cristiano Catarino also getting his 4th. Zachary Perry added his 3rd assist with Noah Cicoria getting his 1st. It was another clean sheet for Michael Barrueta with 1 save in net. It's the 3rd straight shutout for the sophomore.

UP NEXT
Three road contest remain to end the regular season for the #1 Roadrunners. They will begin with a match at Talladega (Ala.) on Saturday, October 22. Kickoff from Talladega is scheduled for 4:00 p.m. (CT).
