#6 William Carey Shuts Down Lady Roadrunners In SSAC Matchup


DALTON, Ga. – #6 William Carey was too much for Dalton State on Sunday afternoon as the Lady Crusaders pushed, pushed, and pushed some more leading to a 6-1 victory over the Lady Roadrunners in Southern States Athletic Conference soccer action at Dalton Stadium in Dalton.
 
HOW IT HAPPENED
FIRST HALF
  • (1-0 WC) WC: Julia Herbst took a pass and finished off the first goal of the day in the 13' for a one-goal Carey lead.
  • (2-0 WC) WC: A tackle in the box led to a penalty kick that SSAC leading goal scorer, Kauany Sousa converted for a goal in the 23'.
  • (3-0 WC) WC: Herbst struck again in the 27' when Maria Azarias found her for goal #3.
SECOND HALF
  • (4-0 WC) WC: Sousa collected goal #2 when she hooked up with Karen Vilau in the 54'.
  • (5-0 WC) WC: Camila Pescatore and Mariangela Jimenez connected for a goal in the 55' to make the Carey lead five.
  • (5-1 WC) DS: Ava Vandoren took strike from 25 yards out and screamed a ball past the Lady Crusader goalkeeper to put the Lady Birds on the board just 30 seconds after Pescatore's goal.
  • (6-1 WC) WC: Sousa snatched the hat trick in the 64' for the final goal of the day and a 6-1 WC advantage.
THE REST OF THE STORY
Dalton State (Ga.) drops to (2-4-3 overall, 0-2-1 SSAC) on the season with the loss, while William Carey (Miss.) improves to (7-2-1 overall, 3-0-0 SSAC) with the win. Brooke Alvarez was great in goal recording 18 saves on the day. She was hit with a barrage of Lady Crusader shots as William Carey held a 46-5 advantage in the category.
 
Twenty-four of the shots for WC were on frame. In contrast, the Lady Roadrunners only took 5 shots total, but 4 of the 5 were on goal. Ava Vandoren scored the only DS goal of the day, her 3rd of the season.

UP NEXT
Dalton State will get a week off before they square off with Faulkner (Ala.) in Dalton Stadium on Sunday, October 9. It will be Senior Day with the kickoff scheduled for 2:30 p.m.
